Made in the Midlands weekly round up - #2

After a highly successful opening edition of the series, Made in the Midlands will continue to provide weekly round-ups of our most detailed member news stories.

We are delighted to reveal that our East Midlands Exhibition will welcome a range of new and historic manufacturing companies, including Norton Motorcycles, who will be bringing their buyers to the exhibition.

Norton’s CEO, Stuart Garner explained: “Growing and developing the British supply chain is fundamental to Norton’s future success as a British manufacturer. To this end we are delighted to be working with Made in the Midlands and attending our local East Midlands manufacturing show with a view to engaging with more of our potential local suppliers.”

Made in the Midlands are delighted to be hosting the event in the pristine and spacious Pedigree Suite and can already confirm a selection of exhibitors including: Boneham and Turner, Voestalpine Rotec, Igus, CeraCon, Briggs, O.L.D Engineering, East Midlands Coatings, Portakabin, Hucknall Sheetmetal and many more.

MTI secure over 4 million in post-Brexit EU orders

Midlands-based joining solutions provider MTI has secured more than €4 million in EU orders since Brexit.

The engineering firm, which services customers such as Dana and Jaguar Land Rover in the UK, has secured contracts with new clients in Italy, Hungary and Germany and are moving forward on key EU ventures whilst quoting for projects in new territories such as Turkey, Russia and Asia.

Due to recent significant EU orders, the firm is progressing with an accelerated capital investment programme to support ongoing growth with key customers. Investment projects include expansion from a 20,000 square feet facility in Dudley, UK, along with the creation of a new welding machinery product line.

Chemique Adhesives to appear in the Parliamentary Review

Chemique Adhesives will feature in the 2015/16 Parliamentary Review alongside The Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon Philip Hammond, and a small number of outstanding organisations in the Chemical Manufacturing edition.

Director of The Parliamentary Review, Daniel Yossman, said: “It’s been an utter privilege to work with a range of organisations from across the country in this year’s Review. Without their input, our aims of spreading expert knowledge and raising standards simply would not be achievable.”  

Hexagon MI equipment used in Superbike World Championship

Scrutineers for the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship have chosen Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence equipment to ensure teams comply with the technical rules.

Scott Smart, FIM WorldSBK technical director explained: “Our scrutineers like the Hexagon measuring system as it is highly-flexible and accurate across a wide range of sizes and part types. Ease of use and repeatability are of paramount importance, particularly in a busy working environment such as the racing paddock.”

Watkins Hire sponsor incredible Kidney for Life challenge

Additionally, Watkins Hire Ltd sponsored Andrew Jackson from Veoila for his four day cycle challenge, from Dover to Amsterdam in aid of Kidney for Life. Andrew has raised £5,000 during his incredible journey and this is the fourth time Watkins Hire have sponsored him. Within the business, a Midlands based engineering company needed urgent cooling to their computer room pending the installation of a new permanent fixed air conditioning system.

Watkins Hire prides themselves on their fast and reliable service. From the initial verbal instruction of order given, the KwikCOOL SAC 25 unit was run up and ready to go with transport on stand-by. Once the order confirmation was received the Watkins air conditioning unit was on site and installed within an hour and a half.

Bracebridge install new lighting and create new website

Bracebridge Engineering have replaced the lighting within their factory. With the help of Chalmor Ltd, an energy saving company based in Luton we came up with a solution to replace all of the old lighting with the High Bay T5’s.

Bracebridge claim that the transformation has been superb. They now average over 400 lumens across the factory and have reduced their energy bills by 20%.

Additionally, Bracebridge have teamed up with MIM members, Kalexico to design their brand new website. Their new look website is a reflection of the continual improvements being made overall at Bracebridge.

CEC discuss electricity and Lloyds Bank summarise Food and Drink sector

Made in the Midlands Patrons, Control Energy Costs revealed that UK wholesale electricity prices for the day-ahead market increased dramatically as the heatwave in some areas of the country helped push up the demand for power.

Whereas, Lloyds Bank released their ‘Food and Drink Research Report 2016’ executive summary. Food and drink firms have never been more important to the UK.
