This week, Made in the Midlands revealed that the Chairman of the Conservative Party, Sir Patrick McLoughlin will be speaking at the East Midlands Exhibition on Thursday 17th November at the iPro Stadium, Derby.
Made in the Midlands Managing Director, Jason Pitt stated: “It is fantastic that Sir Patrick will be opening our East Midlands exhibition as the MP for Derbyshire Dales and the Chairman of the Conservative Party. Sir Patrick is a central figure within British politics, so we hope that our members are excited to showcase the services they provide throughout British industry.”

Additionally, Central College Nottingham’s celebrated Brightson Xaviour Kalavilasam being crowned the winner of the Made in the Midlands Young Inventor Award at IET: Birmingham, Austin Court in front of respected directors and representatives of the Midlands manufacturing sector.
Gavin Varley, Head of School for Technology at Central College Nottingham, said: “Getting involved in competitions like Made in the Midlands provides a great opportunity for our students to not only meet industry experts, but also to practise skills they will need in industry. For example they’ve had to keep to time schedules on the projects, work independently and present their ideas to real company directors. We’re very proud of all the students who took part.”
Star Micronics GB hosted the latest Made in the Midlands breakfast morning inside their brand new purpose-built UK headquarters.
Their new site is located in Derby opposite the Rolls-Royce factory on Raynesway. Visitors were presented with a chance to see Star’s SR-32J machine, which is a leading favourite with turned parts manufacturers within the UK. The new headquarters includes a 2,700 square feet showroom which features their range of sliding head lathes and FMB barfeeds.
Oxford Medical Diagnostics (OMD), a leading developer of advanced proprietary methods of analysing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in breath, is working with Renfrew Group International (RGi) on the engineering and industrial design of a portable breath analysis device.
The collaboration combines OMD’s scientific research expertise with RGi’s design capabilities to further develop an accurate, low-cost, portable and non-invasive breath analysis platform to identify and monitor certain metabolic and infectious diseases by detecting and measuring VOCs in breath.
Also, Lucenxia Malaysia, a subsidiary of Adventa Bhd, has launched the Lucenxia INTELLIS, an Intelligent Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) cycler designed for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to be treated at home, while they are asleep. Telford based air filtration and extraction specialist Filtermist International has acquired Stourbridge firm Multi Fan Systems in a move designed to strengthen the company’s UK central extraction systems service offering.
“Filtermist’s UK operation grew by 26% between 2012 and 2015, and the company continues to have extremely ambitious targets. Increasing our capability in the bespoke extraction solutions market is a fundamental part of our UK growth strategy,” explains Filtermist Managing Director James Stansfield.
