Made in the Midlands weekly round up - 10/02/17

Posted on: Feb 10th

The latest Made in the Midlands breakfast event was hosted in Rugby, Warwickshire by AW Precision, who are a leading manufacturer of punch and die products and components throughout Europe and the USA.

Business Development Manager of AW Precision, Andy Whitworth said after the event: “These events are absolutely key. People’s time is precious, as I find doing the BD role. It’s nice to get people out of their factories and offices to a bit of a neutral environment to discuss things. I think it has been really good and very worthwhile. It’s nothing like just a coffee morning, it’s a fantastic networking event.”

Our next Breakfast event will take place on 9th March at Torus Technology Group in Telford, West Midlands and we are looking forward to seeing you all there.

Issue 10 of the Made in the Midlands magazine has now arrived at our offices. Please make sure you look out for your copy in the post, as they will be delivered to all of our members. You will see that the Ricoh Arena is featured on the cover and we explain the switch.

The Made in the Midlands Exhibition is back on the 25th May and will be hosted at the Ricoh Arena. This will be our 8th exhibition and it promises to be our biggest event yet with 200 exhibitors and an anticipated 2,000 guests.

We will be sending out exhibitor packs next week, where you will find all of the information that you will need about the event and exhibiting at the show.

We also sent out the capabilities survey recently, which will help us to create the 2017 buyers guide. We would really appreciate if you could fill in the survey correctly, to ensure that your potential customers know exactly how your business can help them.

Somers forging strong reputation for 150 years

Since it was founded 150 years ago, Somers Forge has built a reputation around the world for the excellence of its forging and general engineering.

Somers Forge Ltd was founded in 1866 and is now headed by managing director Tammy Inglis. When it comes to the key factors in the sustained success of the business, Mrs Inglis believes that diversification has been key, as well as the continued support and investment from the Folkes family.

Photographs of naval parts supplied, patents, letters of recognition to service to industry and signed photos following the Queen Elizabeth II visit in 1957 further endorse Somers’ experience and reputation throughout its 150 years. As it continues to look to the future, Somers is keen to promote heavy engineering with the younger generation, taking on apprentices and investing in further and higher education of its employees.

Earlier this month it hosted a visit from the BBC filming for the children’s education program ‘Absolute Genius’. Mrs Inglis said “As we now look forward to its next 150 years we are confident that Somers will continue to supply forged products of quality, competitively throughout Europe and the world market place.”

Jay Boyce, Tax Partner at MHA MacIntyre Hudson in Birmingham, said: “We are pleased to have worked with Marcus and his team, and provide them with the advice and support that will enable them to execute their vision for the future of this successful, long-established business.”

Furthermore, Control Energy Costs, Liam Conway has had conversations with 3 MiTM members about how energy brokers have essentially abused their trust and misrepresented energy savings whilst building in huge commissions which the end user always pays for.

He has lost count of how many MiTM members along with our wider client portfolio are being ‘shafted’ by energy brokers. There is no cost nor any obligation to engage with them, even if you just want a second opinion before committing to something please get in touch via: liamc@cec.uk.com or 07501221728.

Additionally, Jonathan Lee Recruitment is building on its long heritage of providing high calibre staff to the automotive, motorsport, aerospace, rail, commercial vehicle and off-highway sectors with the launch of a dedicated transport division of 30 specialist consultants led by Managing Consultant, Mark Bignell.

“The UK has a strong heritage and an excellent reputation globally in these sectors and needs highly skilled people to maintain its position as a market leader whilst delivering innovation and growth.

“Our business has evolved alongside the industry and has met the challenges of the changing needs of the market for permanent, contract and interim staff in product development, manufacturing, aftermarket and support functions.”

To conclude, Jonathan Lee Recruitment would like to wish the winners and runners up of the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards a huge congratulations.

David Woakes, Group Business Development Manager, represented Jonathan Lee Recruitment at the event: “We were delighted to spend the evening in the company of the EEF and their members at the grand Connaught Rooms in London.”
